Lifelong teacher, of multiple age-groups in multiple contexts: full-time public high school teacher, 3 years (English/ Literacy, Music); after- and during-school workshop teacher, creative/ screenwriting, moviemaking, music and weblog design (and created a curriculum for community organic gardening); 6 years-plus in summer camps, working with ages ranging from 2-14; numerous preschool and childcare teaching experiences, including Montessori environment, childcare mentorships; established A Brooklyn HomeSchool, serving clients with children ages 2-8 since winter, 2005.
LifeLearning Mentors is an extension of the Brooklyn HomeSchool endeavor/ concept.
No longer limited to Brooklyn. Not limited to any age-group, or to being an 'alternative' to public or private schooling for your child (though you can opt for such, by special arrangement-- and you'd have to file the paperwork yourself, but we can certainly aid you in navigating that process). Available for after-school care, mentoring, as well as academic tutoring.

Basic Rate: $20/hour, $15/hour for bulk hours-- flexible, open to negotiation.
Philosophy: A lifelearning, democratic/ "free"-school approach to invoking/ allowing student-guided, interest-led, open-ended educational experiences. Not a traditional tutor, in the sense of "working on homework" or "preparing for a test"-- rather, focused on partnering with your child(ren) in creating and navigating a self-guided learning experience. But again-- qualified and available for academic tutoring in all grade-school subjects, most high school.

For a sense of more aspects, see the 'blogsites I created for A Brooklyn HomeSchool in recent years, by clicking its link;
or,
Look at the two 'blogs which have been begun this summer during a "summer camp" Mentorship with Leo and Julian, twin boys, age 8, in Morningside Heights. "NYC Playgrounds KidStyle" and "NYC Experiments" links will get you there.
Visit the other links to learn from a few useful sites, and/or subscribe to the EXCELLENT publication LifeLearning Magazine (a subscription is highly recommended if this educational/ life approach interests you).
